Grad School - First Year

Fall Semester 2017

Costume Production 1

18th Century Women's Fashion

This is part one of a two semester project.  I chose to do a 1780-90s corset with bumroll and pad under a gathered petticoat.  We radially projected a corset from The Cut of Women's Clothes by Norah Waugh.  The bumroll was drafted from a hand out, and the petticoat was draped.  In the second part of the class, Spring 2018, I will be working on a version of the 1780-90s dress from Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion 1 book.

Costume Production 3

 Modern Men's Tailoring

This is a part one of a two semester full three piece suit project, starting with the jacket.  The pattern was drafted from a handout.  In the Spring Semester, we will be doing the vest and pants.

Costume Design 1

Electra Orestes by Euripides

This semester we picked our own concepts for a design of both plays, Electra and Orestes, by Euripides.  I chose to set mine in a mental hospital in modern time.

Spring Semester 2018

Costume Production 2

18th Century Women's Fashion, continued

This was next step following CP1, where we constructed the dress to go over the underpinnings made last semester.  I chose to follow a pattern out of Patterns of Fashion 1 by Janet Arnold.  The fabric is a silk blend with ribbon detail.

Costume Production 4

Modern Men's Tailoring, continued

This was the second part to last semester, now making the vest and pants to go with the jacket.  Here I used drafts provided from my instructor to find the correct shape and fit for my model.

Costume Design 2

A Little Night Music by Stephen Sondheim

This semester the entire class was asked to design A Little Night Music to experience researching and drawing in a specific period.  I chose to push my design into the 1908-10s, based on the one blue dress worn by Desiree.  We were also assigned to go to New York City to fabric swatch for the designs.  Many of the garments drawn do not have exact swatches, and some are in reference to color and/or weight of desired fabric.
